Over the years, we’ve introduced many well-loved features to Box for Android, enabling our millions of users to be more productive, collaborative and connected wherever work may take them. And now, we’re thrilled to continue this momentum by offering Box for Android v3.0 - one of the biggest updates since we first launched on Android back in 2010. We’re also excited to expand our partnership with LG that will provide pre-loaded 50GB Box accounts on LG’s premium smartphone and tablet devices, delivering mobile productivity for millions of users worldwide.
Available for download today, Box for Android v3.0 sports an overhauled interface that puts your content front and center. Built for speed and simplicity, we believe the new Box for Android provides the best mobile productivity experience on any Android device. Read on for a full review of what’s available in our latest release and the LG offer.
Best-in-class content experience
Save a lot of pictures on Box? Swipe through photos quickly and smoothly in our new image gallery without having to wait for full resolution versions to load. Reviewing a large number of files for a project? We’ve implemented a lightning-fast document previewer (supporting preview for more than 100 file types) so that even historically difficult file types (such as PowerPoint) render perfectly. You can now run through that important slide presentation right from your Android phone or tablet. We’ve also added some great features inside the preview experience, including page thumbnails, grid views, full text search within documents and more!
Enhanced productivity with OneCloud
When you have OneCloud apps installed alongside Box, you can do even more with your content. Sign contracts, annotate reports and e-fax your spreadsheets – starting right from Box or the OneCloud app of your choice. We’ve made it easy to find great apps to work with all of your files by adding a fully native OneCloud app gallery. When you preview a file, you can now easily see which apps are compatible with that file type. In addition, here are a couple of slick new OneCloud apps now available for our Android users to make work life easier:
- Hall is a business messaging application for co-workers, vendors and clients. The integration helps you to easily share files from your Box account.
- Documents to Go is an all-in-one Android editing application with support for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and other files. Load and save files directly to and from Box.
Fit and finish
We scoured our app and overhauled every screen – making sure your experience is fast, reliable, and enjoyable. We overhauled menus throughout the app, introduced a swipe menu on every item to get to actions even faster, and added touches like a new user tour and information headers on each folder. We’ve also added Polish and Turkish language support, bringing the total number of languages that our app supports to 26.
LG & Box: Device Pre-loads with 50GB of Box
We are excited to expand our partnership with LG to bring mobile productivity to more users. The Box app will be preloaded on LG’s premium G-series devices, and new and existing Box users will receive 50GB of free storage from Box for 1 year when they log in to the Box app from a designated device. The 50GB offer will be available in the US, Western Europe and South Korea.
"Mobility and the cloud are revolutionizing the way businesses and individuals connect, collaborate and stay productive,” said Ramchan Woo, Director of Product Planning at LG Mobile of LG. "We're incredibly excited to partner with Box and offer our customers a simple, yet powerful solution for sharing and accessing content from LG smartphones and tablets wherever work may take them."
Finally we’re extending our MobileIron AppConnect support of Box for Android. IT admins can deploy Box straight to their employees’ devices with AppConnect policy controls including app-specific passcode locks and file saving restrictions. Check out our whitepaper for more information.
Our efforts to deliver one of the best mobile app experiences on Android recently won PC Magazine’s Editors’ Choice stamp of approval. We hope all these enhancements will help you do more with your content and stay productive on your Android phone or tablet, all without sacrificing any of the security or control you would expect from Box.
