Between food drives, Mustache Mo’Vember, back-to-school drives, Relay for Life, and AIDS/LifeCycle, Boxers have organized all kinds of events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities to help give back to the community. Last year, a group of us formed ACT10x to unify our philanthropic efforts. Our hope is to channel the energy and enthusiasm of our colleagues to positively impact the causes important to Boxers. Here's what we've been up to over the past year:
Altruism: We're fortunate to have lunch provided at Box headquarters. Once a month, we skip the catering and donate our lunch budget to a nonprofit. Teams at Box take turns selecting the benefitting cause. To date, we’ve donated a total of $55,000 to organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area.
Community: We've organized a number of events to bring community groups to Box, and to bring Boxers out to the greater Bay Area community. Some of last year's events included a toy drive, food bank volunteering and a cleanup of Presidio Park in San Francisco.
Technology: We're always looking for ways to put our technology and knowledge to good use, connecting people and helping them to accomplish amazing things. We have worked with organizations such as Youth Leadership of America, Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, and BUILD to expose students to the possibilities of cultivating interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
2014 is already off to a great start for ACT10x. Boxers have already donated $20,000 to four non-profit organizations. For our May event, Boxers will participate in BUILD’s Annual Youth Business Plan Competitions where we'll help budding entrepreneurs with their business plans and strategy.
We're just getting started, and we look forward to sharing our stories as we build a tradition of giving back to our community.
