In March of 2012, we launched OneCloud with a simple, yet ambitious purpose: to redefine the way enterprises worked on mobile. The goal was to create a secure, connected ecosystem dedicated to the generation of mobile devices that had entered the workplace. The OneCloud ecosystem started with 30 applications on iOS focused on improving user productivity. Along the way, we expanded to Android, introduced a set of tools that simplified the integration process for developers, and launched a portal that curated our most successful OneCloud applications, helping our customers find the right mobile application for their business use case.
Less than two years later, OneCloud has grown to more than 1,000 applications and has evolved into a trusted ecosystem for our 25 million users. Major brands like HP and Cisco Webex Meeting, along with App Store chart-winning startups like Notability and CloudOn, have integrated their products with Box, providing our users with access to industry-leading productivity tools. We are also starting to see a new class of applications emerge – applications whose sole focus is to address content-specific workflows for vertical industries.
Today, we see applications like drchrono used by doctors to care for patients, while they are bedside. Applications like TrialPad are modernizing courtrooms and legal proceedings, digitalizing the attorney’s briefcase. Engineers and construction managers are on job sites reviewing blueprints with applications like PlanGrid. Everywhere we look, industry after industry is being ushered into a new way of working. We believe this trend is only going to accelerate.
Just this past year alone, we saw dramatic growth in OneCloud adoption by Box users in industries like healthcare (+400%), AEC (+300%), and education (+300%).
This growth, although impressive, is not surprising. These three industries, among others, suffer from years of deep-rooted processes that are both repetitive and manual. Here at Box, we see first-hand how mobile devices, equipped with the right applications, are able to simplify and digitalize these same processes, allowing our customers to effectively increase productivity.
Over the coming years, we believe this trend will touch businesses across all verticals, all over the world. We look forward to continuing to work with our OneCloud partners in cultivating an ecosystem that helps usher in this new era, enabling our customers to realize untapped business value. We are still early into the journey, but we couldn’t be more excited about the road ahead.
