It's should come as no surprise that we're a little obsessed with making sharing incredibly simple. While we already give you a bunch of different options for sharing files with just a link, we wanted to make it easier for you to remember where your most valuable content lives on the web. With our latest update, you can create a short, easy-to-remember custom URL that points to an important file or folder.
Business and enterprise users will even have their corporate domain in their custom links, making it easy for employees and clients to recognize company content. Since these URLs keep the shared link security settings of the file or folder you're sharing, you can rest easy knowing your content is super secure.
To get started, just click on the "Sharing" section on the right side of a file or folder to see the "Customize Link" setting that's included under the different shared link options (open to everyone, only to people with your company's domain or restricted to only collaborators in that folder). Simply click that link and enter your custom name at the end of the URL – it's as easy as that!
Here are a couple ways you might use it:
- Set up an HR resources folder for your entire company with a short, descriptive URL. Make the shared link available to only people in your domain so outsiders don't have access.
- Create a document detailing company benefits, and make the access level "open" so prospective employees can view it. Then use a catchy link, like "www.yourdomain.box.com/WorkWithUs" so applicants can easily recall it.
Remember, any custom link you create retains the security and permissions you've set up for a given file or folder, so there's no need to worry about content falling into the wrong hands. Custom URLs are an easy, very secure way for you to make your content stand out – it's a really cool feature we think you're going to love.
