From a Berkeley cottage to today's content platform
The idea for Box originated from a research project Aaron Levie worked on while at USC. He shared his concept for a simple content sharing platform with his childhood friend, Dylan Smith, and the two built the Box platform in 2005. Soon after, they moved to a cottage in Berkeley with their first round of funding—Dylan’s online poker winnings of $20,000—to pursue their goal: to change the way people worked.
Today, Box helps millions of customers worldwide untether from their desks and share content in the cloud. People can now work anywhere, on any device and collaborate across the globe with complete ease and security.
