Flex sharpens competitive edge with cloud sharing and access
Flex is a $26B multinational technological manufacturer and supply chain solutions provider operating 130 locations in 35 countries worldwide. With over 200,000 employees, accessing content from any device, at any time is crucial to getting products to market quickly and cost-effectively.
Initially, Flex wanted to reduce on-premise FTP servers and modernize their content management solution. By migrating data to the cloud, they could reduce operating costs and streamline the storage, access and sharing of files — both inside and outside the organization.
Flex also needed a solution for their challenges with OneDrive. Their workforce relied on Microsoft Office 365 as their productivity tool, and the gamut of issues they experiences with Office 365's built-in content storage was slowing productivity and collaboration.
A hub of productivity and collaboration
During their initial deployment of Box, Flex migrated 50% of their data to the cloud and eliminated 1500 FTP servers. With Box serving as a central hub for all their content, employees could quickly access their files from any device, and share any content with external parties securely and efficiently.
To alleviate their collaboration issues, Flex implemented the Box and Office 365 integration as their central productivity platform. Box functions as the central cloud content management platform, seamlessly integrating with Office, Outlook and SharePoint.
"With OneDrive, we had sync issues, a lot of admin management issues, a lot of usability issues," says Shahin.
The Box and Office 365 integration addressed usability issues, allowing their global network of employees to edit and collaborate in real-time on files in 120+ different file formats. It also ensures they are working on the right version, with files always in sync and controlled by one sync app.
In addition, Flex employees are now able to access and share their Office files, while also controlling access permissions. By utilizing granular permissions and transparent sharing controls of Box, Flex workers can ensure they are sharing their files with the right people, and at the right level of access.

The center of their IT landscape
Flex has seen rapid adoption of Box throughout the company, and anticipate adoption rates as high as 70,000 employees. Flex credits increased usability and ease of management — especially compared to other solutions they've leveraged — as the reason employees adopt Box quickly.
Not only has Box increased the security of sharing files, it has also increased productivity throughout the company and with external customers. With Box as a central cloud content management hub, Flex employees have a standardized method of collaboration.
"It's really important the we're standardizing on a specific platform," says Shahin. "We can't afford running on different platforms. That's won't scale for us, that won't be something we can actually operate."
With everyone at Flex using Box to store, access and share files, they can move away from on-premises servers, while also enabling the companies they work with to get their products to market efficiently.
Flex's ultimate goal is to have Box as the center of its IT landscape. With the growing list of Box partnerships, Flex sees the potential to use a variety of integrations to boost productivity and security.
